Mexico is living a charmed life as the team has been the recipients of penalty kick gifts by US referees in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. In their 1-0 victory against Costa Rica on Sunday in the quarterfinal round the Mexicans were awarded a highly controversial penalty kick in the 120th minute of a 0-0 tie. Oribe Peralta drew the penalty in the box and it was Andres Guardado booting the game winner. Had it not been for the foul by Costa Rica this game would have been decided by penalty kicks. It was the USA linesman who called the penalty. In the Mexico 2-1 victory in extra time to Panama once again the Mexicans were awarded a penalty by the clear mistake of the US referee. Again it was Andres Guardado converting the PK at the 105th minute for the go ahead goal. Panama held a 1-0 lead until a Guardado penalty kick in the 90th minute to force the regulation tie.

Jamaica has been one of the surprise teams of the Gold Cup 2015. They stormed out to a 2-0 lead against the United States in the semifinals and held on for the 2-1 victory. The Jamaicans were the winners of Group B with seven points. They survived their quarterfinal match with Trinidad & Tobago winning in the penalty kick phase. Mexico has been in poor form for much of the Gold Cup while Jamaica has played the better soccer.
