The tournament gets underway at 9:30PM Eastern Time from Santa Clara California as the United States will face Colombia in the Group Stages on Fox Sports 1. The current three way odds available for wagering at Oddsmaker, where the bonuses are the best in the business has the United States and Colombia returning +157 odds with the draw lined at +200 odds.

This is an opening match in Group A. The other two teams competing will be Costa Rica and Paraguay. This is a 16 team tournament with the top two teams from each Group advancing into the knockout stages. The 2015 champions were Chile who defeated Argentina in home soil in the penalty kicks by the score of 4-1 after the teams drew 0-0 for regulation and extra time. The Copa America crowns the South American champion and is usually played in their continent. A twist in 2016 was the fact the tournament will be played in the United States and will include 16 teams instead of 12 like in 2015. In the 2015 format two third place teams advanced into the quarterfinals but that will not be the case this year with 16 teams. The usual 10 teams from South America will compete but this year there will be 6 teams from the CONCACAF region.

Team USA rank 29th in the world, which has been a major drop since the 2014 World Cup. They took a major blow to their ranking by finishing in fourth place in the 2015 Gold Cup on home soil with a 2-1 loss to Jamaica in the semifinals and a penalty kick defeat in the third place game to Panama.

Colombia has been successful in two 2018 World Cup qualifiers this year by defeating Bolivia 3-2 on the road and a 3-1 home victory to Ecuador. In their Copa America tune up they defeated Haiti 3-1 in a game played on May 29th in Miami Florida. They look to rebound from a disappointing 2015 Copa America where they were defeated by Argentina in the quarterfinals. They ended the tournament with only one win. They had two ties and a loss.
