LA has allowed one run or less in five of their past seven playoff games. The Dodgers bullpen have not allowed a run in their past six playoff games. The bad news for the Houston Astros is the LA pen is rested. They eliminated the Chicago Cubs in five games way back on Thursday. With Clayton Kershaw going seven innings in Game 1 the bullpen worked only two innings. LA manager Dave Roberts can pull starter Rich Hill early. He only needs five innings then can go to the pen for the final 12 outs. And then the bullpen will be rested again as Thursday is a day off.

Game 1 could not have gone better for LA. Kershaw was on. He went seven strong innings giving up one run on three hits. The lefthander threw 83 pitches. He struck out 11 batters. Eighth inning man Brandon Morrow pitched a perfect frame and so did closer Kenley Jansen in the ninth.

Houston has to solve their offensive issues on the road. They couldn’t win a game in their series with the Yankees on the road and they score just a single run in LA in the opener. Justin Verlander has been an iron man for the Astros allowing three earned runs in three starts in the playoffs working 22 innings. With Detroit he beat the Dodgers this season back in late August allowing one earned run and two hits in eight innings.
