Duke had another nail biter getting past Virginia Tech in the Sweet Sixteen 75-73 having to dodge a three point attempt by the Hokies in the closing seconds. Prior to that in the Round of 32 the Blue Devils beat UCF by a single point. Duke has not yet played at their best in this tournament. Michigan St comes off a blowout victory to LSU 80-63. All three wins by the Spartans in this NCAA Tournament have come by double digit margins. Michigan St has been very strong rebounding the basketball in this tournament. Duke has been a weak three point shooting team this season while Michigan St strong with their offense and defense in the paint.

At 8:49PM Eastern Time on TBS TV from Louisville Kentucky it will be the Virginia Cavaliers battling the Purdue Boilermakers. Virginia is favored by -4 ½ points with the total set at 126 points. Purdue is the surprise team in the Elite Eight. This is a young team that brings freshman off the bench. They have peaked late as they had to replace scoring from the team from last season. After a blowout win to Villanova in the Round of 32 the Boilermakers got past Tennessee 99-94 in overtime. Blue Devils surrendered 47% shooting to the Knights in the win. On the year Virginia Tech is limiting teams to only 40.4% shooting and 32.7% from the three point line. Duke has been weak shooting the three ball at 30.7%.

At 9:30PM Eastern Time from Anaheim on CBS TV it will be the Michigan Wolverines battling the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Michigan is favored by -2 points with the total set at 125 ½ points. This is a matchup between two stout defensive teams. Red Raiders battled two very good offensive mid-major teams in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. They disposed of both Buffalo and Northern Kentucky by double digits beating the Norse by 15 points and Bulls by 20 points. LA Lakers have been eliminated from the playoffs and will be lottery team in LeBron James first season in Los Angeles. Utah holds the sixth seed in the West and only 2 ½ games back of the fourth seeded Houston Rockets for home court in the first round. LA Lakers on a back to back after a home win to Washington Tuesday. There are question marks whether LeBron James will play in this back to back game. On TNT TV at 8:40PM Eastern Time from Tulsa Oklahoma the Houston Cougars will battle the Ohio St Buckeyes. Houston is favored by -5 ½ points with the total coming in at 132 points. Ohio St utilized their physical prominence as they got past Iowa St 62-59 in their NCAA Tournament opener. Buckeyes got 21 points and 12 rebounds from Kaleb Wesson who returned to the lineup recently after a suspension. Buckeyes win despite shooting 39.7% and going 5 of 20 from the three point line. Houston like they have done many times this season against opponents blew out Georgia St in the first round 84-55. Cougars crushed the Panthers on the glass by a 46-24 rebounding advantage. They finished with 51.6% shooting in the win. Houston has one of the top defenses in all of the nation.

Auburn is favored by -2 ½ points with the over under line of 147 ½ points. Auburn had their hands full with New Mexico St in their first round game winning 78-77. Tigers allowed the Aggies to creep back into the game as Auburn was making mistakes. They did allow their WAC conference opponent shoot 49%. Auburn had a good performance from the three point line converting on 12 of 31 for 38.7%. Tigers rebounding was poor as the Aggies grabbed 16 more than their SEC conference opponent. Kansas despite missing two key players all season and for the NCAA Tournament was able to blow out Northeastern in the opening round 87-53. Kansas built on a 37-25 first half lead. Jayhawks had a good shooting game hitting on 55.7% while limiting the Huskies to just 28.1% and 6 of 28 from three.

Iowa St is favored by -5 ½ points with the over under line set at 140 points. Ohio St has some struggles this season as they have dropped 14 games overall. They did receive scorer Kaleb Wesson to their lineup two games back to help booster scoring. But the Buckeyes have lost seven of ten overall and must feel fortunate to be playing in the NCAA Tournament and not NIT. Iowa St had poor form as they traveled to compete in the Big 12 tournament.
