Hawaii enters play as a live underdog in this spot. They were a bowl team in 2018 finishing with a mark of 8-6. This is an experienced Rainbow Warriors team as they have nine starters returning on offense and nine to the defense. They did pick up notable wins to Navy at home and in their final regular season game defeated San Diego St 31-30 as a +17 point underdog. As a home underdog they have covered two straight in Week 1 games both times facing a PAC 12 opponent. Head coach Nick Rolovich a former quarterback with Hawaii has turned around this program and will have his best teams in his fourth year as head coach. He did receive a two year contract extension. Rolovich started his coaching career at Hawaii as an assistant in 2008. He transitioned back to the run and shoot style last year which helped the team get off to a 6-1 start in 2018.

The team will have all five of their starters on the offensive line returning. Quarterback Cole McDonald has good size at 6 foot 4 inches and 220 pounds as he enters his junior season. He completed 59% of his throws for 3875 yards with 36 touchdowns and ten picks. McDonald became the starter in 2018 and excelled in the run and shoot offense as he made the transition from a running style quarterback. Late in the season McDonald threw for 331 yards against Utah St and 452 yards against San Diego St. Hawaii senior running back Dayton Furuta averaged 4.9 yards per carry on the ground. With experience coming back the Rainbow Warriors defense should show improvement.

Arizona had a disappointing 5-7 record last year failing to earn a bowl berth. They do have weapons on offense behind starter Khalil Tate at quarterback. A concern about Tate is his health. His running style has led to many injuries during his college career. He completed 56.3% of his passes last season. Wildcats have been a bad defense for several seasons. They have allowed over 432 yards per game in seven straight seasons. Arizona have lost ten of their past eleven games on the road. Only win coming at a bad Oregon St team. Head coach Kevin Sumlin enters his second season with the team with 7 starters back on offense and eight to the defense. On the road last year, the Wildcats gave up 470 yards and 40 points per game.
