In game one of this series the New York Yankees were very thin in the bullpen and they needed a good outing from starter Michael Pineda. The Yankees took game one with a 4-1 victory with Pineda going six innings and allowing just one earned run and four hits. David Phelps came up huge with a 2 1/3rd inning save as he struck out three and allowed no hits to the Red Sox to help move the New Yorkers to a 5-5 mark this season. Tonight’s pitching matchup will feature the crafty left hander Jon Lester for Boston as he will oppose the Yankees veteran C.C. Sabathia. Big C.C. has lost weight during the offseason and looks very light on the mound. Sabathia had a poor 2013 campaign as the left hander started 32 games and finished with a record of 14-13 with an ERA of 4.78. Thus far in two starts in 2014 Sabathia is 1-1 with an ERA of 7.50 in 12 innings of work. Jon Lester has been a victim of poor run support this year. He is 0-2 with an ERA of 2.51. He has worked at least seven innings in each start but the Red Sox scored a total of just one run combined in both games.
