The teams met in early January in Big East play with Villanova posting the 76-71 win but not covering as a -6 ½ point favorite. Wildcats were the more aggressive team on the boards pulling down 11 more rebounds than the Red Storm. After falling behind by five at the half Villanova outscored St Johns 42-32 in the second half. Wildcats suffered their first loss in conference last week dropping a one point decision at Marquette. They bounced back with a strong second half rally to beat Providence on Wednesday 85-67 as a -10 ½ point favorite. St Johns had lost six of their previous nine games until an overtime 77—73 win at home to Butler. St Johns has had recent struggles shooting the basketball.
