Contenders or Pretenders?

All American League eyes will be on New York throughout the weekend when the Angels and Yankees meet for the first time this season. The Angels made a move this past week to bolster their offense by trading with the Atlanta Braves for 1B Mark Teixeira, but the Yankees also made a couple of moves to improve their roster for the stretch run. Most recently, they snagged C Ivan Rodriguez away from the Detroit Tigers to fill the void left by Jorge Posada when he elected to have season ending shoulder surgery. Los Angeles dominated the “Bronx Bombers” last year winning six of their nine overall match-ups.

The Angels come into this four-game series on a roll having just swept the Boston Red Sox at Fenway. They currently own the best overall record in all of baseball at 67-40, and have made MLB bettors a grand total of $2050 on the season. The Halos can simply coast throughout the last couple months of the season with division leads of 11.5-games over the Texas Rangers and 14-games over the Oakland A’s.

New York managed to salvage the final game of its series with the Baltimore Orioles, and also come into this series red-hot since the break winning nine of its 12 overall games to claw to 11-games over .500 (59-48) for the first time this season. They currently sit four-games in back of the Tampa Bay Rays for the top spot in the AL East, but their recent acquisitions should see them eat away at that deficit in the coming weeks.

In order to be taken as a serious World Series contender, this is a series the Yankees must win. Be sure to login to your account at OddsMaker.com and get all your bets in for what’s certain to be an exciting weekend at Yankee Stadium.
