The Lakers won game one of this NBA playoff series following a 103-88 home win as a -4 ½ point favorite to the Denver Nuggets. Denver had issues with Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum in the middle. Bynum had 13 boards and 10 block shots in the game one victory. Kobe Bryant delivered 31 points on 11 of 24 from the field. LA got good outside shooting from Steve Blake and Ramon Sessions as they combined for 9 of 18 from the field. If the Lakers can get good outside shooting they could make a serious run for another NBA title. This would force opposing defenses to give respect to the LA shooters which would create more space in the middle for Gasol and Bynum to work with.

The Lakers defense made it difficult for the Nuggets offense as Denver could make just 35.6% from the field in the loss. The Nuggets young bigs in Kenneth Faried and Kosta Koufos seem to lack the experience for this stage and matchup. It was a poor shooting performance for the Nuggets guards as both Arron Afflalo and Ty Lawson combined for just 6 of 22 shooting from the floor in the loss. With Denver very weak in the paint the Nuggets will need to rely on outside shooting in this series. Only Danilo Gallinari was effective offensively for Denver as the shooter led Denver with 19 points on 7 of 14 from the floor.
