The California Golden Bears finished strong closing the season winning three of their past four games.

In the Big Game they battled rival Stanford Cardinal to a very close 31-28 road defeat on November 19th.

California’s two notable wins came against Utah and Arizona St on the year.

They struggled against the top tier PAC 12 teams with losses to Stanford, at Oregon, USC and at Washington.

The Golden Bears will face a solid defense in Texas. A concern for Cal backers is the fact they came up with just 15 points at Oregon and 9 points at home to USC on a Thursday night in front of a national television audience.

Buffalo transfer Zach Maynard is under center for California this season. He completed just 56.8% of his passes with 17 touchdowns and 11 picks. Maynard has an extremely weak arm.

The Golden Bears got good production in their ground game from running back Isi Sofele who ran for 1261 yards and a 5.5 yards per rush average.

C.J. Anderson was solid on 69 carries in the Cal backfield this season with a 5 yards per rush average.

Texas closed the season poorly losing three of their past four games.

Their bad play against the pass in the season finale earned Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III a Heisman trophy.

The quarterback position was a complete mess for the Longhorns this season leading the team their second straight poor season to their standards.

At quarterback sophomore quarterback Case McCoy hit on 61% of his passes with seven touchdowns and four picks.

McCoy looked terrible in the loss to Baylor with four interceptions so David Ash will be competing for the starting job leading up to kick off in the Holiday Bowl.

The freshman Ash hit on 56% of his passes this season for three touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Texas was hit hard with injuries to their running back position. Foswhitt Whittaker is out for the year.

Backs Malcolm Brown along with Joe Bergeron are dealing with injuries and are listed as probable for their bowl game.

The under looks like an appealing play in the Holiday Bowl.

The Texas offense has struggled and will face a stout Golden Bears defense.

Cal will have trouble running the football against a Longhorns team that allows just 3.3 yards a carry.

Golden Bears quarterback Zach Maynard has a weak arm and hasn’t been effective against good defenses all year.

The Holiday Bowl will begin from San Diego at 8PM Eastern Time on Wednesday December 28th.

National television coverage between the Golden Bears and Longhorns NCAA college football game is available over ESPN.
