To earn the bowl berth Western Michigan rallied to close the regular season with two straight wins.

When you look up and down the Western Michigan schedule for this year you really see no quality wins whatsoever.

They beat an awful Connecticut team on the road on October 1st and it really is their only quality win of the year.

Under center for the Broncos is Alex Carder who finished up the year hitting on 67.2% of his passes for 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

But remember those numbers came against some of the weakest defenses in the entire nation residing from the MAC conference.

Carder is expected to be in the starting lineup despite separating a shoulder in their 24-21 road win at Miami Ohio on November 16th.

The offensive stats for the Broncos look somewhat impressive until you see who they piled up the yardage and points from.

A glaring weakness for Western Michigan is their run defense. The Broncos allowed 215 yards rushing this season. Teams ran all over Western Michigan’s defense this season to a mark of 5.5 yards a carry.

It took the final week of the regular season for Purdue to earn a bowl berth as they won their sixth game of the year at Indiana.

Their biggest win of the season came on November 12th in a 26-23 overtime victory against Ohio St. They battle Penn St to a 23-18 defeat at Happy Valley.

They couldn’t compete against the brass of the conference with huge losses at Michigan and Wisconsin. They also have a 28 point road defeat at Notre Dame.

Junior quarterback Caleb TerBush hit on 61.7% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Leading running back Ralph Bolden will not be in the lineup for Purdue following a season ending injury in the team’s final regular season game. He ran for 4.6 yards a carry this year. This may be the reason for the short price on Purdue here.

Even so the Boilermakers offensive line should open up gaping holes in this game for the Purdue running backs.

Laying a short price with a Big Ten squad against a mediocre MAC team is the right play in this one.

They will kick off the Little Caesars Bowl from Ford Field in Detroit Michigan Tuesday December 27th at 4:30PM Eastern Time. You can watch this NCAA college football game live over ESPN television.
