The two starting pitchers for the All Star Game currently are tied to win the MVP award as Matt Cain representing the National League and Justin Verlander of the American League are lined at +500 odds in the wagering. Matt Cain is 9-3 on the year in 17 starts and owns an ERA of 2.62 in 120 innings of work this season. Verlander is the reigning 2011 Cy Young winner and American League MVP. The Tigers right hander has not matched his stats from a season ago as the veteran hurler has a record of 9-5 with an ERA of 2.58 in his 18 starts this season. Verlander has been a workhorse in the 2012 campaign with already 132 innings pitched. For everyday players it is Texas Rangers power hitter Josh Hamilton the favorite as the lefty sports odds of +800 odds to hoist the All Star MVP trophy tonight. Coming off a win in the 2012 Home Run Derby Prince Fielder enters in at +2000 odds to win. Fielder will have a big advantage tonight over his American League teammates as the burly left handed hitter has spent his entire Major League playing career in the National League with the Milwaukee Brewers up until the 2012 season. Fielder has faced many of these National League pitchers and won’t be disadvantaged with unfamiliarity with opposing stuff coming from the mound. With outstanding pitching for both clubs don’t rule out the possibility of extra innings in tonight’s All Star Game. With that being the case it may be a good betting strategy to look for late inning replacements that offer great value at the betting window. Expect Bryce Harper of the National League and Mike Trout of the American League to see action late and both of these young players return a hefty +5000 odds to win the MVP in the Mid-Summer Classic.
