Kansas City has built up some momentum in the playoffs. They were forced to play in the AL Wildcard game as the team hosted the slumping Oakland Athletics in a winner take all one game playoff. The Royals fell behind 7-3 as they entered the eighth inning. The Royals rallied for three eighth inning runs and one in the ninth to force extra innings. Oakland then took an 8-7 lead into the bottom of the twelfth inning and came back to win by pushing across two runs in the bottom of the twelfth. The Royals then drew the LA Angels in the best of five ALDS series. The Angels had the best record in Major League Baseball this season. Kansas City was able to win the first two games of the series both in extra innings in Anaheim. They returned home to Kansas City where the Royals blew out the slumping Angels 8-3 to qualify for the ALCS. The Baltimore Orioles are one of the best offenses in baseball. The offense shined in the first two games of the ALDS as the Orioles scored a combined 19 runs to take the 2-0 lead heading into Detroit. The Orioles bullpen held a 2-1 lead against Detroit to win Game 3 and the series. The Game 1 starter will feature James Shields a Kansas City veteran right hander taking the mound to face Orioles right hander Chris Tillman. Baltimore and Kansas City met seven times this season with KC winning four of the seven games.
