On ESPN TV at 7PM Eastern Time the Washington Nationals will host the Boston Red Sox. Starting for Boston will be Rick Porcello. Boston will enter this series after a weekend series on the road with the New York Yankees. That is usually a tough spot for both the Red Sox and Yankees as they often suffer an emotional letdown in the first game following their series together. Rick Porcello had a down 2015 year but is making amends for it in 2018. The veteran righthander is 9-3 in his seventeen starts with an ERA of 3.80 tossing 105 innings. Red Sox have won his past two starts as he has given up four runs in 12 2/3rd innings in victories at home to the LA Angels and on the road to the Minnesota Twins. Boston has enjoyed a pretty good season as the 2018 campaign has past the halfway mark. They sit in first place in the AL East and sit tops in MLB in runs scored and in team batting. The power has returned to the Red Sox lineup as the team is second in homers. That was an area in 2017 where the team sat in the lower third of the league. Magnificent work on the mound for the Red Sox as they rank fourth in Team ERA at 3.50.

Washington has been a disappointment at home with a record of 19-20. Their starting staff has been outstanding but there has been struggles offensively as the team is 20th in the league in runs scored and team batting. They return home after a six game road trip.

The late night game gets underway at 10PM Eastern Time on MLB Network as the LA Dodgers host Pittsburgh Pirates. Lefty Alex Wood will start for LA. Pittsburgh heads to LA after a weekend series with the San Diego Padres. LA beat them two out of three in their series at Pittsburgh three weeks ago.

Dodgers were a hot team prior to splitting a four game series at home to the Chicago Cubs and losing a three game series to the Colorado Rockies. Alex Wood has won three straight and comes off a win at home to the Chicago Cubs where he allowed two earned runs in seven innings.
