Day baseball is on the schedule and it begins at 1PM Eastern Time on MLB Network as the New York Yankees host Kansas City Royals. Starting for the Yankees will be Luis Severino as he will oppose righty Heath Fillmyer. As the Yankees open up this four game series on Thursday they sat four games in the loss column back of the Boston Red Sox atop the AL East division. They dropped two of three at Tampa Bay. For the Yankees to win the AL East race they must get better work from the bottom of their rotation as Sonny Gray and Domingo German have struggled on the mound. They bolstered their bullpen with the addition of Zach Britton from Baltimore. New York is a good offensive team sitting second in the league in runs scored and are the best in baseball in the home run department. It has been a miserable season for the Royals as they sit 31-70 to open this four game series. KC is 29th in the league in runs scored and 30th and last in home runs. With a team ERA of 5.33 the Kansas City Royals sit last in the league. Luis Severino will look to bounce back after a poor outing at Tampa Bay where he allowed seven runs six earned in five innings in defeat at Tampa Bay. Heath Fillmyer makes a spot start as he has spent time in the Royals bullpen. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 2.82.

On MLB Network at 7PM Eastern Time the Pittsburgh Pirates host New York Mets. Trevor Williams will go for the Pirates as he will oppose Mets righty Jacob deGrom. Pittsburgh has been the talk of baseball as they have won nine of their past ten as they opened this series. Mets are out of the playoff race sitting at 42-57. Trevor Williams has put together good back to back starts limiting the Indians to no runs in six innings and the Washington Nationals to no runs in five innings. Jacob deGrom took another hard luck loss giving up two earned runs in eight innings at home to San Diego as the Mets did not give him any run support.
