The action begins Saturday afternoon at 4PM Eastern Time as many around the nation will get a National League east battle as the New York Mets will face the Atlanta Braves. On the hill for the Mets will be All Star R.A. Dickey as he will oppose Tommy Hanson from Atlanta. As the clubs hit the All Star break the Braves sit four games behind Washington and the Mets 4 ½ games behind the Nationals for the top spot in the National League East. Dickey has put up Cy Young Award candidate numbers for the first half of 2012 as the knuckle baller is 12-1 with an ERA of 2.40 and WHIP of 0.93. He has one start against St Louis back on June 2nd and earned the win as he threw nine scoreless innings for the complete game win. Tommy Hanson has five wins a loss and a no decision over his past five starts.

Some will get a NL Central division showdown between teams at the top of the standings as the St Louis Cardinals visit the Cincinnati Reds. The scheduled starters are Kyle Lohse for the Cardinals and Mike Leake of the Reds. Lohse has strung together six straight quality starts where he has allowed three earned runs or less and worked at least seven innings. Leake has pitched in tough luck with a 1-3 record over his past four games allowing no more than two earned runs in any one game. The Reds offense showed Leake no run support.

Others will get an American League contest as the Detroit Tigers are on the road following the All Star break to face the Baltimore Orioles. Max Scherzer is on the hill for the Tigers as he faces Wei Yin Chen for the Orioles. After a rocky start Scherzer has responded with six wins two losses and one no decision over his past nine starts. Chen has been roughed up by allowing 13 earned runs over his past three starts working 17 2/3rds innings.
