Day baseball is on tap to begin at 2:10PM Eastern Time on MLB Network as the Houston Astros are home to the Oakland Athletics. Starting for the Athletics will be righty Trevor Cahill to battle Astros righty Charlie Morton. Oakland Athletics have been on a tear in the summer. After the first two games of this series the Athletics sit at 51-41. They showed grit overcoming a 4-0 deficit late in Game 2 of this series to force extra innings. Houston has gotten solid work from their pitching staff this season. There has been no drop off from a team that won the World Series a season ago. Their starting rotation combine for an ERA of 2.93 while their relief staff checks in with an ERA of 2.78. At the plate Houston sits third in the league in both runs scored and team batting. Oakland starter Trevor Cahill makes his ninth start on the year. He sits at 1-2 with an ERA of 2.77 and impressive WHIP of 0.99. Cahill looks to rebound after a bad start at Kansas City where he allowed four runs in 4 2/3rd innings of a 5-4 road defeat. Charlie Morton had pitched well on the year with an 11-2 mark and ERA of 2.83. He comes off a shaky start at home to the White Sox allowing five runs in 5 2/3rd innings.

The late night game begins on MLB Extra Innings Channel at 10PM Eastern Time as the San Diego Padres host LA Dodgers. On the hill for the Dodgers will be righthander Ross Stripling to face San Diego righty Tyson Ross. It has been a break out year for Ross Stripling. It is his third year in Major League Baseball and he bounced around the Dodgers bullpen and starting rotation in his first two seasons. He sits at 7-2 on the year with an ERA of 2.22. Tyson Ross has struggled. After giving up seven runs at home to Pittsburgh he traveled to Arizona where the Diamondbacks posted eight runs in two innings on the Padres righthander.
