Day baseball is on the schedule and it begins at 1PM Eastern Time on Facebook Live as the Washington Nationals will host Atlanta Braves. Starting for the Braves will be righthander Anibal Sanchez as he will oppose Nationals lefty Gio Gonzalez. The Nationals are chasing the Phillies and Braves atop the NL East division. Run production has been inconsistent on the year. Gio Gonzalez looks to rebound after a poor outing where he allowed six runs five earned with ten hits over 3 2/3rd innings in a 7-1 home defeat to Cincinnati. The Nationals are 1-8 in his past nine games. He did face the Braves over two months ago giving up three runs in seven innings in a 5-3 win on the road. Atlanta is battling the Phillies atop the NL East division. Atlanta’s rise in the AL East came with good starting pitching along with a lineup that ranks fourth in the league in team batting. Braves have possessed a good road record on the season. Anibal Sanchez has contributed positively to the Atlanta success thus far. He is 6-3 on the year with an ERA of 2.89 in his fourteen starts.

At 8PM Eastern Time on MLB Network the Houston Astros have a home date with the Seattle Mariners. On the hill for the Mariners will be lefty James Paxton as he will oppose Astros righty Justin Verlander. Seattle has slumped coming off the All Star Break and has fallen behind to the Oakland Athletics in the AL Wildcard race. As the Mariners concluded their series with the Rangers the team sat seven games in the loss column back of the Houston Astros in the AL West race. James Paxton has lacked run support. The left hander has seen his hitting lineup score two runs or fewer in five straight starts. Team dropped three of those five games. Houston gets a day off after sweeping a two game series with the San Francisco Giants on the road. Astros got clutch hitting late in both games. Justin Verlander comes off a great start at the LA Dodgers allowing one run striking out fourteen in 7 2/3rd innings of a 2-1 road victory.
