There is only one game slated for national television and that gets going at 7:30PM Eastern Time on MLB Network as the Washington Nationals will host the New York Mets. New York will send right hander Matt Harvey to the mound. As these two NL East contenders open up this series on Monday it were the Nationals sitting atop the division by two games in the loss column. This will be the third series these teams faced off against one another. Each team has won three of the six games thus far. New York comes off a weekend where they split a four game series at lowly Atlanta. The Braves have given New York a tough time as they have won five of the seven meetings. But that’s what happens when you have good pitching with poor hitting. You can beat anyone but you can also get beaten up by last place teams when your offense fails to deliver runs. It has been a tough year for Matt Harvey. When he entered the Mets many were pegging him as the team’s ace. But it hasn’t worked out that way as 2016 is shaping up to be his worst in his four years in the majors. In 15 starts Harvey is 4-9 with an ERA of 4.64. He has pitched better of late by allowing two runs or fewer in four of his past five starts.

Interleague action features a good one at 8:15PM Eastern Time on MLB Extra Innings channel as the St Louis Cardinals visit the Kansas City Royals. St Louis will start right hander Michael Wacha to oppose KC righty Yordano Ventura. As they open up this four game interleague series on Monday each team has identical 39-25 records. The Cardinals are 4-2 on this road trip as they crushed Seattle 11-6 on Sunday. KC was able to break a four game losing streak with their 6-1 home victory on Sunday to the Astros.
