His velocity has been down and is coming off a 6-10 campaign in 2015 with an ERA of 4.73. It has been two seasons with under 200 innings of work for C.C. He also had a trip to rehab near the end of the 2015 season with an alcohol problem. Mike Pelfrey makes his debut with Detroit after three seasons with the Twins.

On FOX Sports 1 TV at 1PM Eastern Time the San Francisco Giants are home to the LA Dodgers. It will be an Ace versus Ace matchup as left hander Clayton Kershaw hits the mound for LA to face Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner. Kershaw was sharp in the opening win at San Diego. Bumgarner wasn’t sharp but won at Milwaukee giving up two homers and five walks over five innings of work.

At 7PM Eastern Time on MLB Network the New York Mets will be home to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies will send right hander Vincent Velasquez to the mound to battle New York Mets. The Mets in their home opener on Friday afternoon defeated Philadelphia 7-2.

The late night game is joined in progress at 9PM Eastern Time on MLB Network as the LA Angels will host the Texas Rangers. The veteran left hander Cole Hamels will start for Texas to battle Angels right hander Garrett Richards. Hamels is 1-0 after allowing two earned runs over seven innings in a home win to Seattle. Richard lost the opener at home to the Cubs by allowing three earned runs over five innings pitched.
