LSU has decided on their starting quarterback and it will be Ohio St transfer Joe Burrow. LSU has struggled for seasons to try and get efficient play from their quarterback position. For four straight season the Tigers have failed to complete over 60% of their passes. Head coach Ed Orgeron enters his third season. Team returns over five starters on each side of the ball. Offensively they got hit hardest with playmakers with first year starters at running back, quarterback and with two wide receivers. In their 9-4 season a year ago, LSU averaged 27 points and 411 yards per game. The run game after posting 6.1 yards per rush attempt in two straight seasons fell to 4.8 yards in the 2017 campaign. LSU defended well holding their opponents to 18.9 points with 318 yards per game. After facing Miami, the Tigers will battle Southeast Louisiana at home six days later Saturday. Their opener in the SEC is at Auburn on September 15th.

Miami concluded a successful 2017 campaign at 10-3. Head coach Mark Richt in two seasons have improved the Hurricane’s defense as the team is allowing about 20 points per game in 2016 and 2017. Team returns seven starters on offense and to their defense. Hurricanes are inexperienced on their offense line where they return two starters. Miami has their top running back returning in Travis Homer who rushed for 966 yards last season averaging 5.9 yards per run. Miami will be home to Savannah St on Saturday. They open ACC play on September 27th on a Thursday night hosting North Carolina five days after being home to Florida International. They do have a non-conference road game on their 2018 schedule as they visit Toledo in two weeks.
