These clubs met earlier in the year on November 18th with Duke posting an 81-71 victory at Madison Square Garden. Michigan St struggled some during the non-conference and early conference season. Head coach Tom Izzo has once again conditioned his athletes to peak during the NCAA Tournament as the club enters this game winner of eight of their past nine games. Michigan St has defended extremely well allowing just 33% shooting to their four opponents thus far. The Spartans needed overtime to get past Louisville in an Elite 8 contest winning 76-70. Travis Trice hit a key three pointer late in the overtime to salt away the victory. Michigan St nearly gave away a late six point lead as Louisville closed the game strongly to force the overtime period.

Duke has three double digit victories in their four NCAA Tournament games to date. In the Elite Eight the Blue Devils squared off with the Gonzaga Bulldogs. They earned a 66-52 victory against the Bulldogs behind a solid defensive performance limiting Gonzaga to just 2 of 10 from the three point line. The Duke guards have done a good job of guarding the dribble to avoid deep penetration into their basket. As a result the Blue Devils forced 13 Gonzaga turnovers while playing a relatively clean game by turning the ball over twice. After a 21 point performance in the win against Utah in the Sweet Sixteen forward Justice Winslow led the Duke in scoring in the Elite Eight with 16 points.
