Day baseball is on the schedule and it begins at 2:20PM Eastern Time on MLB Network as the Chicago Cubs host the New York Mets. Starting for Chicago will be Jason Vargas as he opposes veteran Yu Darvish for the Cubs. New York travels to Chicago dropping five of their past seven games. Mets pitching has been pounded as the team has allowed seven runs or greater in four of their past six games. Cubs have lost six of nine opening this series after they split a two game home series against the White Sox. Jason Vargas has shown improvement this season for New York as the lefty is 3-3 in eleven starts with ERA of 3.74. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his past nine starts. New York bullpen has struggled on the season with an ERA of 5.46 on the year. Darvish makes his sixteenth start of the year. He enters play with a 2-3 mark with ERA of 4.65. His numbers have been worse at home with an 0-2 record and ERA of 5.89. He does come off a good start at the LA Dodgers giving up one run with two hits and ten strikeouts in a 2-1 road win.

On MLB Network at 7PM Eastern Time the New York Yankees are home to the Houston Astros. New York sends lefthander James Paxton to the mound to battle Astros righthander Brad Peacock. Houston travels to New York on a down note with a four game losing streak after getting swept in a three game road series at Cincinnati scoring a total of seven runs in those contests. Houston failed to hold a one run lead in the bottom of the ninth in their 3-2 loss on Wednesday. New York is hot entering this series on a five game win streak after sweeping a three game home series to Tampa Bay holding the Rays to four runs total while plating 21 runs. Brad Peacock has been hit in his past two starts allowing eight runs with four homers in 11 1/3rd innings. Paxton in his return to the rotation following injury has given up 12 runs 11 earned in 17 1/3rd innings.
