Tanaka battled the Blue Jays on Sunday giving up no runs and three hits over eight innings of a 1-0 road win.

Two NL West foes compete in the late night game at 9:40PM Eastern Time as the Arizona Diamondbacks are home to the San Francisco Giants. On the hill for Arizona will be Mike Leake as he will battle Giants righthander Jeff Samardzija. As the Giants and Diamondbacks open a weekend series, Arizona is 3 ½ games back in the NL Wildcard race and the Giants are 4 ½ back with 41 games left to be played. San Francisco finished off a disappointing home stand that saw the team go 4-5. Arizona on their road trip dropped two of three at LA Dodgers then win two of three at Colorado. Tough loss in the series finale blowing a one run lead in the ninth inning of a 7-6 road defeat at the Rockies. Jeff Samardzija has a mark of 9-9 in 24 starts with an ERA of 3.55 and WHIP of 1.11. He held the Phillies to one run and two hits over eight innings of a 3-1 home victory. Mike Leake makes his third start with his traded team. He was pounded at the LA Dodgers on Sunday giving up eight runs with ten hits and four homers in five innings of a 9-3 road defeat.
