He faced the Yankees back on Saturday giving up three runs over 5 2/3rd innings of a 9-3 home win. James Paxton sits with a mark of 5-6. He was pounded last Friday in his start at Boston surrendering seven runs with four homers in 4 innings of work in a 10-5 road defeat.

The late night game begins at 9:40PM Eastern Time on MLB Extra Innings Channel as the Arizona Diamondbacks are home to the Washington Nationals. On the hill for Arizona will be lefty Robbie Ray to face Nationals righthander Joe Ross. Washington is chasing the Atlanta Braves in the NL East race sitting 6 ½ games back. They hold the final NL Wildcard spot but there are five teams within 4 ½ games for that final spot. Washington travels west after going 5-5 at home losing two of three to the Braves losing a game in the standings. Arizona is 54-55 sitting 3 ½ games out of an NL Wildcard spot. But they were sellers at the All Star Break trading away Zack Greinke. They have lost four of six on their concluded trip out east. Joe Ross sits at 0-3 in one start with an ERA of 9.85 and WHIP of 2.11. He last started on July 21st at Atlanta allowing three runs over 5 1/3rd innings of a 7-1 road defeat. Robbie Ray is 9-7 in 23 starts with an ERA of 3.91 and WHIP of 1.30. Ray faced Miami on the road Sunday allowing two earned runs over six innings of a 5-1 loss.
