Jeff Samardzija enters play at 8-9 in 23 starts with an ERA of 3.70 and WHIP of 1.16. He worked on Monday and held the Nationals to one run over four innings of a 4-0 defeat at home. Samardzija threw 98 pitches in those four innings with three walks.

Two AL Central contenders meet at 7PM Eastern Time on MLB Extra Innings Channel as the Minnesota Twins have a home date with the Cleveland Indians. On the hill for Minnesota will be Jake Odorizzi as he will oppose Indians righty Adam Plutko. Cleveland wins the opener of this series and now have moved to one game back of the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central. Indians hold a 3 ½ game lead in the AL Wildcard race. With their win the team has won six of their past seven games. Twins have lost three straight. Adam Plutko has a record of 4-2 in ten starts with an ERA of 4.55 and WHIP of 1.15. He worked last Saturday giving up one earned run over 5 1/3rd innings of a 7-2 home win. Jake Odorizzi sits at 12-5 in 22 starts with an ERA of 3.61 and WHIP of 1.19. He faced Atlanta on Monday allowing one run over six innings of a 5-3 home win.
