Playoff contenders meet at 7PM Eastern Time on FOX Sports 1 TV as the New York Mets host the Philadelphia Phillies. Starting for New York will be Marcus Stroman as he will oppose Phillies lefty Drew Smyly. Heading into the weekend the Phillies and Mets were chasing the leaders in the NL Wildcard race with the Phillies four games back and the Mets five games. Phillies traveled to New York after splitting a four game series with the Reds. Drew Smyly was traded away from Texas after ineffectiveness. He has been inconsistent with Philadelphia four poor outings and three good ones. New York return home winning two of three at NL East contenders Philadelphia and Washington. Marcus Stroman came over in a trade with the New York Mets. He comes off his best start as a Met allowing two earned runs over six innings at Philadelphia.

The late night game gets underway at 9PM Eastern Time on MLB Network as the LA Dodgers have a home date with the San Francisco Giants. Getting the start for LA will be Tony Gonsolin as he will battle Giants righty Tyler Beede. LA Dodgers have a huge lead in the NL West but hold a four game lead in the loss column on the Atlanta Braves for home field advantage for the entire National League Playoffs. Giants were in contention for a NL Wildcard following the All Star Break but their lack of hitting the past month has dropped the team out of contention. LA opens this series after sweeping the Colorado Rockies in a three game series. Tony Gonsolin is pitching for a spot on the postseason roster. He faced the Diamondbacks in his last start giving up two runs and three hits over five innings. Gonsolin has averaged five innings per start in his five starts coming up from Triple A. San Francisco has lost eight of ten after a 10-0 road loss at St Louis to start this road trip. Tyler Beede worked four innings in his last start at St Louis allowing three earned runs. San Francisco has lost eight straight Beedeā€™s starts.
