It has been a difficult season for the Navy Midshipmen. They hit their rivalry game with a 3-8 record and will miss a bowl game. Navy had issues playing away from their home stadium with an 0-6 straight up record on the road. After dominating this series with Army for many years the Midshipmen has lost two in a row to the Black Knights. Last season it was Army edging Navy 14-13 and covering as a +2.5 underdog. Navy gave up a late touchdown to Army on a one yard run and the Midshipmen failed to counter with a score in defeat. In that defeat Navy struggled on third down going 2 of 11.

Good news for Navy is their offense picked up at the close of the season. They split their final two games of the regular season with a 37-29 home win to Tulsa and dropping a 29-28 decision at Tulane. Navy did cover the spread in their final three games of the regular season as they have a 35-24 defeat at Central Florida as a 23.5 underdog in that span.

Army has had a fine season checking in with a 9-2 regular season mark and will be playing in a bowl game. The only losses Army took this year was a 34-14 road defeat at Duke and a 28-21 road loss at Oklahoma in overtime. Their competition was weak to close the regular season as the Black Knights picked up wins to FCS schools Lafayette and Colgate as they enter their game against Navy. Army has defended well this year limiting teams to 18.7 points per game. They held good passing teams in Oklahoma and Hawaii to 21 points in four quarters of play. Remember Oklahoma needed overtime to get to 28 points scored on the Army defense.
