The Western conference is showcased in the doubleheader and in game one the young New Orleans Pelicans will travel to face the old Dallas Mavericks. The Pelicans and Mavericks get things started from Dallas at 8PM Eastern Time and ESPN offers the coast to coast broadcast. The star of the New Orleans Pelicans is Anthony Davis. The former Kentucky product earned his way onto the All Star team this year as has put up some impressive numbers. Davis is averaging 20 points per game along with 10 rebounds so he a 20 and 10 man by his sophomore season in the NBA. That is a two rebound per game and eight point per game improvement over his rookie season. There is still plenty of upside with Davis as he is only 20 years old will turn 21 on March 11th. Dallas is currently sitting in the eighth spot in the Western conference heading into play on Monday. They hold a two game lead over the ninth seeded Memphis Grizzlies in the competitive Western conference.

The late game out west will feature Dwight Howard as the Houston Rockets hitting the road into Staples Center to face the LA Clippers. The Rockets and Clips tip off at 10:30PM Eastern Time on ESPN. Both the Rockets and Clippers are chasing the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top spot in the Western conference. Heading into Monday’s action the Clippers were in the fourth seed and 4 ½ games behind the Thunder while the Rockets were occupying the third seed and 4 ½ games behind OKC. This will be the final game of a five game trip for Houston. Heading into their road game at Sacramento the Rockets had won nine of their past ten games. The Clippers are returning home to Staples Center after a short three game road trip. The team is battling some injury concerns as Chris Paul has a sprained thumb and is probable while J.J. Redick is out with back problems.
