Second favorite in the wagering are the Clemson Tigers at +450 odds. Clemson returns seven starters to the offense that produced 33.3 points per game. Their defense was outstanding giving up 13.8 points per game and a very good pass rush. Eight starters on defense return.

Followed in the betting are the Georgia Bulldogs that return +650 odds. Bulldogs must replace six starters to a defense that allowed 12.3 points per game and made the Championship Game. Jake Fromm returns as starting quarterback and has two of his weapons return to wide receiver.

Ohio St sits at +900 to win the national championship game. There is controversy at the head coaching position as Urban Meyer is on administrative leave. They must revamp a defense that losses six starters from last season. There will be a battle for the starting quarterback position.

Auburn checks in at +2500 odds. The Tigers must get through a difficult SEC schedule that includes LSU, Alabama and Georgia on the road. They open the season facing the Washington Huskies on a neutral field in Atlanta. They suffered four losses last year including a loss to Central Florida 34-27 in the Peach Bowl.

Notable longshots included the USC Trojans +5500 odds and TCU Horned Frogs at +10,000 odds. USC will break in a first year starting quarterback after the departure of Sam Darnold. Good news is four starters return to the offensive line. Trojans defense has not been as dominant since Pete Carroll moved back to the NFL. TCU must replace half of their starters from a season ago. Team will break in a new quarterback in 2018. In addition to a tough Big 12 schedule the Horned Frogs will meet Ohio St on a neutral field.
