It has been a horrible start to the season for the New York Jets as the team is 1-4 and trails the first place New England Patriots by three games in the AFC East division. They are on a three game losing streak after a 31-13 road defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets pass defense has been atrocious this year and in their loss to the Steelers they allowed 380 yards passing with four touchdowns to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. New York is 31st and second last in the NFL in pass defense as the team surrenders 303 yards per game. The Jets secondary are giving up big plays to opposing offenses. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has not had a good year as he has five touchdown throws and ten picks in five games played. The Jets acquired running back Matt Forte in the offseason and is nursing a knee injury and expected to play. Forte is averaging 3.7 yards per carry on the year and that’s the second worst in his career.

The Arizona Cardinals are 2-3 as they come off a 33-21 road victory at San Francisco which broke a two game losing streak. They are two games in the standings behind the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West race. The Cardinals are eighth in the NFL in total defense by allowing 308 yards per game. They are fourth best in defending the pass. Veteran quarterback Carson Palmer was forced to sit out the win at the 49ers with a concussion. He has been listed as probable for Monday night. Palmer is completing 58.8% of his throws with six touchdowns and five picks. His completion percentage is the lowest of his four years with the Cardinals.
