The top defensive prospect in the 2020 draft is Ohio St defensive end Chase Young. He exits the Buckeyes after three seasons. Young was very productive in his final two seasons in college where he compiled 35 ½ tackles for loss and 27 sacks. Experts have Young going to Washington. Head coach Ron Rivera is a defensive minded head coach who brought in Jack Del Rio as his defensive coordinator. With Dwayne Haskins selected at the quarterback position by the Redskins in the first round last year it is unlikely they go with a quarterback with the second pick in the draft.

Ohio St cornerback Okudah is the second highest defensive prospect in the draft. Scouts like Okudah’s ability to cover in man to man coverage and tackle in the run game. He is projected to start immediately in the league. In Mock Drafts Okudah is projected as the third pick in the draft going to the Detroit Lions. Head coach Matt Patricia is on a hot seat and the team must improve on a pass defense in 2019 that allowed 284.4 yards per game.

Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown is next in the defensive ratings. Brown played four seasons with the Tigers. He developed into a first round talent following his sophomore campaign at Auburn where he put up monster numbers. He generates good pressure on the quarterback and defends the run well. Scouts feel that Brown can start immediately in the NFL and can make an impact on defense. Draft experts expect Brown to land with the Carolina Panthers who have the seventh pick in the draft. Panthers took care of their quarterback situation by signing Teddy Bridgewater in free agency. Carolina struggled in run defense and pressuring the quarterback a season ago.
