Henry Ruggs played three seasons with Alabama. He comes off a junior campaign where the caught 40 passes with seven touchdowns and 18.7 yards per reception. Ruggs lined up opposite of the top ranked receiver in the draft in Jerry Jeudy. The Crimson Tide first round prospect displayed great speed at the combine by posting the fasted forty yard dash. With Jeudy in his patterns, Ruggs was able to find spots in zone coverage and go over the middle to get targeted. The prospect also can contribute in special teams as he returned kicks for Alabama in two of his three seasons.

Draft experts have pegged Ruggs to the San Francisco 49ers who has the fourteenth pick in this draft. 49ers had a weak wide receiving corps and it showed in their Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The need for a receiver in San Francisco escalated as Emmanuel Sanders signed with New Orleans in the offseason. Expected to go ahead of Ruggs is Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb. It is doubtful that Ruggs would get drafted over Jeudy. But a case can be made for Ruggs as the second receiver taken in this draft and some scouts are concerned about CeeDee Lamb playing against weak coverage in the Big 12 conference. Projected to select receivers are the New York Jets with the 11th pick and Las Vegas Raiders who have the 12th pick. Jets need a target for their young quarterback Sam Darnold as on their depth chart are Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman. Raiders need a weapon in the passing game for quarterback Derek Carr. Las Vegas targets on the roster are Tyrell Williams, Hunter Renfrow and Nelson Agholor. Also, in the market are the Denver Broncos who have the 15th pick and need to help young second year quarterback Drew Lock.
