Draft experts have touted Isaiah Simmons as the fifth best prospect coming out in the draft. Scouts love his ability to pressure on quarterbacks and to line up man to man with tight ends in pass defense. They would like to see Simmons build strength to better fight off blockers in defending the run. He showed great speed in his forty yard dash at the NFL combines. Simmons has the look of a linebacker and not a secondary position according to scouts.

Cincinnati with the first pick is expected to select quarterback Joe Burrow from LSU. Washington Redskins with the second pick is eyeing a defensive player. Chances are Chase Young from Ohio St will go ahead of Simmons. Detroit Lions are also in the market for an impact defender and they have the third pick in the draft. Lions were poor in pass defense last year giving up 284.4 yards passing per game. Detroit is eying Jeff Okudah a corner from Ohio St. Many mock draft experts have Simmons going to the New York Giants with the fourth pick. New York has struggled in pass defense the past few seasons and needs help putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. There is talk that New York may trade down for picks and allow a team to move to the fourth pick with a shot at getting Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. That is a scenario where Simmons could fall in the draft. Dolphins and Chargers with the next two picks looking at quarterbacks plus the receiver position.
