CeeDee Lamb enters the NFL draft after three seasons with the Oklahoma Sooners. He saw significant action in all years at the school. Lamb put up some monster numbers in his junior campaign posting 62 receptions with fourteen touchdowns and a very good 21.4 yards per catch average. Even as a freshman Lamb averaged 17.5 yards per reception with his 46 pass catches.

He is projected by the draft experts as the second best receiver coming out. Pundits love Lamb’s ability to pile up yardage after the catch with good stop and start skills and his capability to break tackles. He is expected to be a number one receiver in the NFL. Ahead of Lamb in the player ranking is Jerry Jeudy out of Alabama. Lamb sits ahead of wideout Henry Ruggs III from Alabama.

Draft position is often determined by the needs of teams early in the first round. There always seems to be high demand for quarterbacks, pass rushers and receivers early. Mock draft experts believe the New York Jets will be the first team selecting a wide receiver. Jets have the eleventh pick in the draft and desperately needs targets for their young quarterback Sam Darnold to throw the football too. With the Jets poor ability to develop a starting quarterback in recent seasons we have seen highly touted free agents pass on New York as a destination. Last year the team had to patch up a receiving corp.

Las Vegas Raiders is a team that is also targeting a receiver with the twelfth pick in the draft. Raiders was able to plug holes defensively in free agency. With the 13th pick San Francisco 49ers are in desperate need of a receiver to build on a weakness from last season. LA Chargers with the sixth pick in the draft also could be looking for a wide receiver. If the Chargers are serious about Tyrod Taylor as their starting quarterback, they would draft a receiver in this spot. With two quarterbacks selected in the first five picks in the draft, the Chargers may want the best receiver in this draft over the number three rated quarterback.
