With 32 picks in the first round there are a total of eight players from the Big Ten ranked in the Top 32 prospect list. But many teams draft based on needs and not best available at their position. Ohio St has two of the top three rated players in the draft in defensive end Chase Young and corner Jeff Okudah. Young closed the final two years with the Buckeyes with strong numbers as he had a total of 26.5 sacks and 36.5 tackles resulting in negative yardage. Experts have Young ready to start immediately in the NFL but must improve his tackling in the run game. Arizona Cardinals has a young quarterback and must protect him. They could be looking at Iowa offensive linemen Trist Wirfs to protect Kyler Murray. Defensive end AJ Epenesa could be headed to New England in the first round who fits the Belichick system. Penn St defensive end Yetur Gross Matos could be headed to Tennessee with pick 29 based on their need for a pass rusher.

Alabama has five players ranked in the Top 32. Crimson Tide have locks in the first round in Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. Health is a concern but there appears to be four teams in this draft to select a quarterback. Jeudy is the best receiver in the draft and could be headed to the New York Jets with pick 11. Henry Ruggs III is the likely third wide out selected in the first round. Xavier McKinney is the top safety in the draft and expected to be a middle round first pick. Cornerback Trevon Diggs is slated as a late first round pick. Diggs has good size and the scouts like his work in zone coverage. The Alabama corner has good ball handling skills as he originally played with the Crimson Tide as a wide receiver in his first season. Offensive tackle Jedrick Willis is expected to be selected early in the first round as the best offensive lineman prospect in the draft.
