The current odds at Oddsmaker, where the bonuses are the best in the business has the over under for draft position for Justin Herbert to be at 5.5 pick in the draft. Over is favored at -220 odds with the under bringing back +170 odds.

One of the major surprises of the off season last year was Oregon Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert announcing his return to Oregon for his senior season. He put up good numbers in both his freshman and sophomore campaigns. But as a junior the signal caller completed 59.4% of his passes that overshadowed his 29 touchdowns and 8 picks. NFL executives are looking for accuracy when selecting quarterbacks early in the draft. The thought is Herbert was looking to better his draft position with an accurate 2019. He achieved that as the quarterback hit on 66.8% of his throws with 32 touchdowns and 6 picks. He capped off 2019 with a Rose Bowl win against Wisconsin.

There are two quarterbacks expected to be drafted before Herbert in Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa. Burrow is a lock to be drafted first with the Cincinnati Bengals who look to move past Andy Dalton. Washington Redskins have the second pick in the draft. Ron Rivera enters his first season as head coach and does a very good job of building a defense. Dwayne Haskins was selected in the first round at quarterback for Washington last year. Team just signed Panthers backup Kyle Allen. It probably makes sense for the Redskins to draft Ohio St defensive end Chase Young.

With pick three are the Detroit Lions. They have Matthew Stafford at quarterback and is 32 years old. He dealt with injury concerns last year. He is signed through the 2022 season so it is unlikely that the Lions would pick Tua and sit him for three seasons. New York Giants have the fourth pick in the draft. Unlikely for New York to go with a quarterback after drafting Daniel Jones last year in the first round. Jones does show to have a promising career. With the fifth pick in the draft are the Miami Dolphins. This is a team with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting quarterback and Josh Rosen the backup. With picks 18 and 26 in the first round a quarterback with pick five is likely. That is where Tua could land. That puts Justin Herbert likely taken with the sixth pick to LA Chargers who allowed Phillip Rivers to exit in free agency. There is a scenario that Herbert can go ahead of Tua with the fifth pick. The Alabama quarterback suffered a hip injury in 2019 that cost the lefthander the part of his senior season. With this virus teams have not been able to work out players so that puts the possibility of Tua going behind of Herbert.
