The current odds at Oddsmaker, where the bonuses are the best in the business have the Oakland Raiders the +165 favorites to win the AFC West division. The Raiders were one of the most improved teams in 2016 as they finished second in the division at 12-4. The team was eliminated in the wildcard round of the playoffs losing at Houston as Oakland was forced to utilize a backup quarterback for the injured Derek Carr. The Raiders were sixth in the league in total offense and seventh in scoring. Improvement will be needed on the defensive side of the football as Oakland sat in the lower third in the league against the run and pass. Raiders won a lot of close games so they were able to cover up that weakness.

Second in the wagering are the Kansas City Chiefs returning +180 odds. The Chiefs won the division in 2016 at 12-4 as they owned the tiebreaker over the Raiders. Defensively the team held opponents to just 19.4 points per game which was seventh best in the NFL. Alex Smith completed 67.1% of his throws for 15 touchdowns and 8 picks. They were defeated at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs 18-16 failing to cover as a 2 ½ point favorite.

The Denver Broncos are third in the betting at odds of +310 odds. The Broncos finished out of the playoffs with a mark of 9-7. Defensively, the team put up good numbers ranking fourth in total defense and were best in the league against the pass. Denver was 27th in total offense. Quarterback Trevor Siemian saw the bulk of the action completing 59.5% of his passes for 18 touchdowns and 10 picks. Head coach Vance Joseph replaces a retiring Gary Kubiak.

Longshots to win the AFC West will be the LA Chargers at +475 odds. The former San Diego Chargers will move to the LA area and play in a small soccer stadium in Carson, California. LA Chargers blew a lot of games late last year with critical mistakes as they ended 2016 at 5-11. Behind Phillip Rivers the team was sixth in the league in the passing game.
