Ohio finished the regular season with a disappointing 6-6 record. More is expected from this good MAC program as the team is usually in the mix for a conference title. The Bobcats suffered through a lot of close losses with four of their losses by three points or fewer. They were in danger of missing a bowl game as the Bobcats were 4-6 following their first ten games of the season. They faced two of the worst teams in the MAC to close the regular season on the road. Ohio traveled to Bowling Green beating the Falcons 66-24 then the following weak crushed Akron 52-3. In the non-conference the Bobcats lost all their games against bowl teams to Louisiana at home plus road defeats at Marshall and Pittsburgh. One of their six wins came at home to an FCS team in Rhode Island 41-20. Ohio is a good offensive team as they average 443 yards per game which is 33rd in the nation.

Nevada concluded their regular season at 7-5. This is not a strong offensive team that ranks 103rd in the nation with only 360 yards per game running for 123 ranking 117th. This is a low scoring team pushing across 21.3 points sitting 111th in all of college football. They did close their regular season winning three of their final four games. The notable win was on the road to bowl bound San Diego St 17-13. Wolf Pack closed the regular season behind a disappointing 33-30 home defeat in overtime to a down UNLV team in their rivalry game. Nevada did open the season with a 34-31 home win to Purdue.
