Some of the nation will receive an American League battle as the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox open up a weekend series on Friday night. The Rays and Red Sox will begin from Boston at 7PM Eastern Time. Tampa Bay will throw Alex Cobb on Friday as he will oppose left hander Jon Lester for the Red Sox. Cobb will be making just his second appearance of the year on Friday. He appeared on Saturday and earned a win giving up just two earned runs in seven innings against Atlanta. Cobb was 3-2 in nine starts with an ERA of 3.42 in 2011 for the Rays. Lester is on a two game win streak allowing five earned runs combined in 15 innings pitched against the Phillies and Mariners.

Others will get a National League affair as the Colorado Rockies travel to face the Cincinnati Reds as these two clubs open up a series. They begin at Cincinnati at 7PM Eastern Time. The Rockies will throw Christian Friedrich as he will face Johnny Cueto for the Reds. Friedrich in four appearances this season is 1-1 with an ERA of 5.00. He got bombed last time out allowing 8 earned runs in five innings in a loss to Seattle on Saturday. Cueto is having an outstanding season as the hard throwing right hander is 5-1 with an ERA of 1.97 in nine starts.
