The Carolina Panthers are off to a poor start in 2016. The team is 1-3 as they carry a two game losing streak into Monday night. It was a poor defensive effort last week in a 48-33 road defeat at Atlanta. The Panthers young secondary were crushed by Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones. They allowed Ryan to pass for 503 yards and four touchdowns and for Jones to catch 12 passes for 300 yards and a touchdown. Carolina the last few seasons were a stout defensive unit sitting atop the league in most significant categories. In 2016 the Panthers have fallen to 28th in the league in scoring defense by allowing 29.5 points per game. They are allowing 257 yards passing per contest which is in the lower half of the league. Carolina will be without starting quarterback Cam Newton who suffered a concussion last week in the defeat at Atlanta. It will be veteran journeymen Derek Anderson getting the start. In relief for Newton last week against the Falcons it was Anderson hitting on 17 of 23 passes for 172 yards with two touchdowns and two picks.

The future looked bright for Tampa Bay as they entered the 2016 campaign. Rookie quarterback Jameis Winston was coming off a good rookie campaign. They went into Atlanta in week one and came away with the 31-24 road victory at Atlanta. Since the Buccaneers have lost three straight. They have been crushed on the defensive side of the football as they have given up an average of 35 points per game in those losses. The Bucs sit 31st and second last in the league in scoring defense.
