Temple was a rebuilding team and struggled out of the gate this season. They won three of their final four games to become bowl eligible at 6-6. He bounced back after a poor game at home to Central Florida where Nutile threw four interceptions in defeat. On the season Temple did allow 392 yards on defense with teams rushing for 182 yards.

Florida International finished play at 8-4 overall behind a strong 6-1 home record. They closed out winning two straight with home wins to Western Kentucky 41-17 and to Massachusetts 63-45 covering as small home underdogs in each game. The Golden Panthers have a balanced offensive attack and could give Temple some issues with their ground game. FIU rushes for 174 yards for nearly five yards per attempt. In their passing game they toss for 242 yards. Golden Panthers quarterback Alex McGough a senior threw for 17 touchdowns and 8 picks as he completed 65.3% of his passes. In his final four games McGough had eight touchdown passes and one interception. McGough started all four seasons at Florida International and has been his most accurate in his senior year as he completed 65.3% of his passes.
