The scheduled starters for Sunday will be Matt Harrison on the hill for the Rangers as he will face Garrett Richards from the Angels. Heading into Friday’s action the Rangers held a seven game lead in the loss column against the LA Angles in the AL West division. As the teams began this three game weekend set at Anaheim the clubs have split their six head to head meetings with each club winning two of three games played at their home park. Matt Harrison has had a very good 2012 campaign as the Texas starter has a record of 12-3 in his 17 starts with an ERA of 2.34 and WHIP of 1.18. The Angels have hit Harrison as the Rangers hurler has an ERA of 4.53 in six career starts. Harrison’s recent form is outstanding as he has allowed two earned runs or less in seven of his past starts. In those seven starts Matt Harrison has given up five earned runs working 52 1/3rd innings. After winning two of three games at Seattle following the All Star break the Rangers split a pair at Oakland. The Angels have had a very difficult schedule since the All Star break as they were sent on the road for series against the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers. The LA Angels went 2-5 on their east coast trip and enter their series with the Rangers losers of three of four games. As they began this home stand the Angels were grasping a one game lead for a wildcard spot in the American League. Two games separate seven teams for both wildcard placements in the AL. Young Garrett Richards is 3-1 this season with an ERA of 3.53. He has a career ERA of 1.59 in two starts against the Rangers. He is coming off a win against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday as he threw seven shutout innings and allowed three hits.
