Northern Illinois are MAC conference champions. The team is 8-5 overall. They had a dramatic win in the MAC championship game as they defeated Buffalo 30-29. Huskies were down 29-10 late in the third quarter. Huskies had struggled this year on offense. They ranked 123rd in total offense posting 325 yards per game. Scoring only 20.7 points per game the team was 120th in the nation. Northern Illinois continued their good performance on defense like they have for several seasons now. On the year Northern Illinois is giving up only 21.5 points per game which is 27th in the nation. At quarterback for Northern Illinois is sophomore Marcus Childers. He completed 57.6% of his throws on the season with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He had his best performance of the year in the MAC title game throwing for 300 yards with four touchdowns and a pick against Buffalo.
