USF has an experienced offense as they return nine starters to a bowl team from a season ago. Team moved the football for 438 yards per game a season ago. They return senior quarterback Blake Barnett and have their senior running back returning in Jordan Cronkite. Barnett completed 61.1% of his throws for 2705 yards. Cronkite was an effective runner who produced 1121 rushing yards for 6.1 yards per attempt. Johnny Ford in his freshman campaign rushed for 787 yards for 6.8 yards per carry. He will add strength during the offseason. Four of the five offensive lineman are back for the Bulls as is all of Barnett’s weapons in the passing game. There are six players return on a defense that needs improvement. Their experience comes on the defensive line. USF has covered three of four as a double digit underdog.

Wisconsin has only six starters return on offense and six to the defense. There are four new starters on the offensive line. There will be a first time starter at quarterback. Competing are freshman Graham Mertz, and junior Jack Coan. During his sophomore campaign, Coan saw work as starter as Hornibrook was dealing with concussion injury. The signal caller only averaged 5.5 yards per attempt and had five touchdowns and three picks. Issue for the Badgers is they have not had good enough quarterback play to get the ball downfield. Johnathan Taylor is a workhorse running back but was asked to carry the whole load last season. The Badgers defense did allow 4.4 yards per carry and 155 yards on the ground the highest in seven seasons. Their points allowed at 22.6 were also the most in seven seasons. That is an issue because the Bulls can run the football behind their experienced offensive line. Opponents completed 58.1% of their passes on the Badgers defense. Also, the highest the past seven seasons. On the road the Badgers did allow 25.8 points and 362 yards per game. Badgers down defensive numbers resulted in the team failing to cover 9 of their 13 games.
