Xavier had a rough year as the team struggled through a record of 21-12 on the season. They made news with a fight on the court against rival Cincinnati this season that resulted in suspensions that disrupted the team’s chemistry and put the Musketeers in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament. They did close well enough to earn a bid with three wins over their past ten games and deep run in the Atlantic 10 tournament as they lost to St Bonaventure in the championship game. Over their past five games the Musketeers have struggled on defense allowing teams 43.5% shooting. Their notable wins on the 2011-12 campaign came in December with a 20 point home win against Cincinnati and a three point home win against Purdue.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish finished up play against the Big East with a solid record of 14-6 on the year. In their quarterfinal game in the Big East tournament they have a notable win against South Florida in overtime. They were eliminated the next night by eventual champion Louisville by the score of 64-50 as a +3 ½ point underdog. A positive for the Irish tonight has been the play of their defense as they have held their past five opponents to just 56 points and 36.9% shooting with only 27.5% coming from the three point line. Notable wins for the Fighting Irish have come at home to Syracuse and Marquette. On the road they have victories against Louisville and West Virginia.
