The Florida Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers head into their weekend series against one another with a chance of securing the top spot in each of their respective divisions. The Marlins once again ripped apart its roster in the off-season, but you have to hand it to Manager Fredi Gonzalez and his staff for keeping their young club in the NL East race throughout the first half of the season. The first half of Joe Torre’s reign as Dodgers manager has been a tough one to say the least. His squad has been injury riddled throughout the entire first half of the season, yet they come into this weekend’s series with the Fish tied atop the NL West with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Marlins come into this series with the Dodgers off a series win at San Diego that saw them take two of three from the Padres after getting pounded three games to one in their previous stop at Coors Field against the Rockies. Florida is 21-24 as a visitor this season, and they’ve made MLB bettors a shade over $300 on the year. The Dodgers open up this series red-hot winning seven of its L/10 after taking two of three from the visiting Atlanta Braves. They boast a winning mark at Dodger Stadium (24-21), but have cost the MLB betting public $335 on the season.

Friday night’s match-up pits behemoth Chris Volstad in his first official start as a big leaguer against the Dodgers (2-1) Eric Stults. Saturday evening’s affair should be a good one when (10-4) Ricky Nolasco battles (5-6) Hiroki Kuroda. Both hurlers have been exceptional of late, so look for a lower scoring game. The Marlins will throw lefty (5-8) Andrew Miller in the series finale against (8-8) Chad Billingsley with both pitchers looking to bounce back from losses their last time out.
